LIBRARY HAS A RECORD YEAR
Montgomery's Public Library had a total
circulation of 11453 books in 1930, according to a report made
at the regular meeting of the library association Tuesday
evening. The total circulation of books last year showed a
gain of 2,105 over the preceding year.
According to the records there were 1,342
regular patrons of the library during the past year. One
hundred and forty-eight new books were put on the shelves during
the year and 39 gift books were presented to the library.
Only seven books were lost during the past year, which officials
of the library consider a remarkable record.
Fourteen newspapers and periodicals were in
circulation through the library during the past year.
Library officials, proud of the record of the year just closed,
are planning a still larger service for the people of this
community.

THE MONTGOMERY PUBLIC LIBRARY
Not very long ago the Montgomery Library Board
received a note from the Pennsylvania State Library Extension
Board commending them on the fact the Library had kept open for
over forty years. It did not even close its doors during the
depression as did many small town libraries. The board
being justly proud decided to publicize a brief resume of the
library's history.
On November the 10th, 1911, the newly organized
Parent and Teachers Association decided as a project to start
the ball rolling for a much needed public library. They
promoted a movie and earned $23.40 to start the fund. The
town was solicited and large and small donations were received.
Thinking of present book prices, it is amazing
to note that a nucleus of 110 books was purchased for $32.06...
The first home of the Library was in the school
but in 1914 it was moved to the rooms occupied by the Civic
Club. The Library moved a number of times, each time with
varying problems and expenses...
(This article has been posted here before.
We just wanted people to know the origins of the Library and the
local efforts to open and keep going all these years.
There are many people in the community over the years who helped
make the library what it is today. Wherever they are, we
thank them.)
